    Certification activity

    Thursday, June 9th, 2011

We are still very busy with new certifications at the moment. There are a lot of companies across the west midlands seeking ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditation, and our diaries are full. We have been working a lot in the Black Country, Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Telford, as well as further afield, on the South Coast and internationally. Current trends seem to be supply chains pushing accreditation down the chain, along with the need for addressing PQQ requirements. But, on the positive side, several clients have recently reported HUGE Return on Investment for their ISO 9001 certification – one client reckons it has nearly doubled his turnover!!

    Long time no blog!!

    Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Wow! Havent blogged here since the great freeze of 2010! We have been been playing catch-up and more! We have been out on the road auditing pretty much solidly for the last 2 months. Both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 seem to be keeping up their demand. Clients often ask how demand is during a post-recession. Well, there are 2 types of companies. Firstly, those who cut all costs, staff, quality functions, marketing etc., and see ISO as an extravagance. These do not want ISO 9001 or 14001, and to be honest we dont really want them. The second type of company ensures it is lean and fit for purpose, but utlises highly effective marketing, and looks for competitive advantage, systems and process efficiency, and enhanced client focus. These companies often see ISO 9001 and/or ISO 14001 as being of great strategic importance for the organisation, and a cost-effective way of meeting these objectives. For example, I was with a Landscape surveying company in North Wales last week, who said almost exactly the above, and who had decided that implementing both ISO 9001 and 14001 was cost effective and would bring net benefits. These companies usually work according to well understood systems, procedures and work instructions, so certification is generally fairly straightforward for them.

    Funding extended!!

    Monday, November 29th, 2010

We have just heard that the funding window for capacity building in the West Midlands has been extended until March 2011. This means that there is £800-£1000 available for small businesses across the West Midlands to upskill their staff in preparation for ISO 9001, ISO 14001 or OHSAS 18001. This covers the whole of the West Midlands, from Worcester to Stoke and out to Oswestry. Obviously Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Stoke on Trent, Telford and Shrewsbury are all included. So far we have worked with more than 150 companies on this scheme, and now we hope to work with many more!
