According to the ISO, by the end of 2008, nearly 40% of ISO 9001certificates were held by organizations in the service sectors. I haven’t found figures for ISO 14001, but I would expect it is similar. This is primarily because certification provides an edge over rivals, demonstrates a commitment to quality and/or environmental management, increases competitiveness in tenders, enhances customer focus and understanding of how clients view the organisation, and provides internal cost-saving benefits. Not bad huh?
